JSP celebrates LOcHER students' achievements
JSP Supports the LOcHER project

Getting the health and safety message across to young people before they formally enter the
workplace is key to ensuring they lead safe and successful careers. That’s why JSP Ltd is proud to
support the LOcHER project – ‘Learning Occupational Health by Experiencing Risks’ – aimed at
students undertaking vocational courses and who are about to enter the world of work for the first
time.
Europe’s manufacturer of ‘above-the-neck’ personal protective equipment has donated 20 JSP
‘safety rucksacks’ to the woodworking apprentices at Preston College. In 2016, led by tutor Dave
Foye, the apprentices took part in a LOcHER competition to design a poster campaign to raise
awareness among young people of the risk of respiratory disease caused by exposure to dust in the
workplace.
The specially designed JSP rucksack includes an Evolite safety helmet with InterGP helmet-mounted
ear defenders, stylish lightweight Stealth safety spectacles, Evolution goggles and a Force 8
respiratory facemask, fitted with the award-winning Press to Check filter, which helps the wearer
ensure a perfect fit every time.
Industries such as motor-vehicle maintenance and repair, woodworking and welding use and/or
create substances that are harmful to health. Young people entering these industries are potentially
in greater danger owing to their lack of maturity, insufficient experience and ignorance of risk.
Consequently, the LOcHER project team is running pilot schemes in these three industries, working
with college staff and students to raise awareness of the risks and how to avoid long-term damage
to health.
