Following 25 years’ technical experience and 11 years in a Health and Safety role within the Surface Coatings and Chemical Industry my considerable experience was used as an independent consultant for 13 years to guide and assist SMEs meet their legal requirements. I am now retired but was a CHAS Assessor for 8 years and conducted numerous practical and desktop audits of safety systems for many years with particular reference to contractor safety.
For 7 years, I took on the role as Treasurer of the Manchester and North West Districts Branch of IOSH and when I retired in May 2016 I was pleasantly surprised to receive the Presidents Distinguished Service Award.
I have been involved with Manchester Occupational Health and Safety Group for 24 years, most of them as Treasurer, until my retirement on 31st Jan 2018. In 2012 I was nominated by the group for the Maurice Adamson Award which I was very proud to receive in the House of Lords
I have also been treasurer for Safety Groups UK since 2004. As a trustee of this charity I have undertaken many other tasks and for thirteen years until October 2017, with the help of my wife, Cathy, we organised display stands at around 45 Health & Safety exhibitions and conferences, plus a number of local group seminars & conferences.
I have also been involved with NWRA for over 15 years. This is a mini- umbrella of local safety groups in the northwest and during that period I was Chair and Vice Chair on two occasions as well as Exhibitions Officer for most of the time. I also retired from that role in October 2017
